Our mantra for the integrative studies program can be summed up as this: Come with what you have, and we'll help you finish your degree.
We recognize that not everyone wants to pursue a specific program or field of study—some people just want to earn their degree. Southern's integrative studies program is designed for those who value a college education but aren't necessarily committed to one field or career path.
With our generalized program, you'll get the opportunity to enroll in a blend of core classes and electives that will challenge you, inspire you, and expose you to many new ideas. If you're not sure which career is calling you or if you want to carve your own path, our team will help you earn your degree as quickly as possible.
The integrative studies program is also a great opportunity for those who are interested in graduate programs but first need to finish their bachelor's degree.
Every journey begins with a single step...take your first step here.
“It’s never too late to go back to school. The first few weeks were quite tough, but once I got into the routine of things, it’s actually been easier than I thought it would be.
And, once you’ve earned that degree, no one can ever take that away from you.”
- Pam Burchard, Adult Degree Completion student at Southern who returned to finish her degree after 34 years.
This is an important and deeply personal question to ask yourself, and there is no single answer. All who pursue higher education must answer that for themselves.
That said, there are some common and compelling reasons to finish your degree that have universal applicability. Wherever you are in your life and career, completing your degree can be a wonderfully important step that helps you accomplish your dreams.
Here are a few reasons why finishing your degree is important:
Finishing your degree, especially if it’s been years since you’ve been enrolled, will come with challenges not only from an academic perspective, but also in terms of the time and financial investment that’s required. However, studies show that college graduates on average earn at least $1 million more over the course of their lifetime than those with only a high school diploma.
Many people who return to school to complete their degrees do so not only to earn higher salaries, but also to qualify for many more career advancement opportunities. Whether that's going for a promotion, taking on new responsibilities, or even switching careers, the benefits of earning a degree are seemingly endless.
Many students of Southern's Adult Degree Completion Program enroll because they have a sense of "unfinished business." They started school and, for one reason or another, were not able to finish.
Earning your degree is an incredible accomplishment, especially for those who return to the classroom many years later. And once you've completed that journey, nobody can take it away from you.
